As he exhaled the anxiety thrumming in his chest, Genji examined himself in the mirror. Although his quarters provided little space for movement, he managed to create enough room between him and the reflective surface. His armor, freshly polished and tinkered thanks to the help of Mercy, shone silver and bleached grey. Countless hours of refurnishing were not wasted.

Genji's eyes drifted from his reflection to the black suit hanging in his closet. An idea, repressed several times that evening, surfaced once again; Forget the armor, those who ridicule your scars and cybernetic parts, put on the suit. Sighing, he forced his gaze away. Zenyatta told him that their place of reservation was omnic, and cyborg, friendly. To go out in public posing as human was not needed for safety, nor was it required to impress his mentor.

Thoughts about his master in danger made Genji regret setting his weaponry aside by the bed, but he forced the ideas to the back of his head. This was not a night to think about fighting. Zenyatta asked him to court him on a date, in a robot-friendly restaurant. Stakes were low. Even Dr. Ziegler hushed Genji's worries while they busied themselves with armor. Worry resided in Genji's chest, alongside excitement.

A knock on the door caused Genji to forget his anxieties. He turned as Zenyatta entered, hovering in the doorway. "I sense worry within you, my student, your heartbeat shouldn't be this fast,"

"Yes, master, it will pass once we arrive to our reservation," Genji promised, internally cursing whoever installed a vital scanner into omnics.

Zenyatta motioned him into the hall,"I made a change to the reservation,"

Genji hesitated at his words. "Change?"

Once he stepped into the hallway, he confronted what his mentor meant by change. Hanzo glanced over at his younger brother, eyes narrowing. Beside him, McCree tipped his hat with a grin. Genji frowned behind his faceplate.

"Master?" He turned to Zenyatta for an explanation.

The omnic folded his hands in his floating lap. "I invited your brother and McCree to join us on our date, since they decided to go out tonight as well,"

Genji hoped that wouldn't be the answer. "But, Master, you know my brother and I are not... On good terms,"

"All the more reason for you two to spend some quality time together," Zenyatta justified.

Genji looked over at the new couple for back up. Hanzo ignored his presence, and McCree gave an awkward smile to accompany his partner's bitterness.

"Genji," Zenyatta placed a hand on his student's shoulder,"If they did not want to join us, they would of said no."

The cyborg stared at his master, then swallowed the retorts on his tongue. "... I trust your decision, master,"

Zenyatta's orbs glittered with appreciation. "Let us not be late to our reservation," he floated down the hall, passing Hanzo and McCree. Genji went after him, avoiding his brother's glare. McCree murmured something to Hanzo, who brushed him off, and they followed the robotic couple.

---

After checking in, the wait lasted only a few minutes with Genji and Zenyatta standing a good distance away from Hanzo and McCree out of respect for the brothers' distaste towards each other. If they had their weapons on them, there would've been a chance of a brawl if one was evoked. Once they were seated, McCree made sure to be the one sitting across from Genji.

The trifold menu isolated Hanzo from the company at the table. Occasionally, he would ask McCree to help him read the cursive font, which hindered his already inexperienced English. But he was stuck in his menu until they ordered, and once the menu was gone, he still managed to keep everyone away with bitter vibes.

McCree smiled at the other couple, hands folded on the table. "He's not in the best mood,"

"I can tell," Genji muttered.

"I think he's just really hungry," McCree laughed, and pulled out a cigar. Hanzo glared at him. "Oh, right, no smoking indoors,"

Genji fidgeted. Even McCree was attempting to find a way to avoid Hanzo's pungent behavior.

"So, why'd you order?" McCree asked once the cigar was put away.

Genji looked at him.

"I've never seen you remove your armor, so I assume you don't eat,"

"Oh, I do eat. In private. I ordered my food to go so I can eat when we get home, my body is not exactly..."

"Pleasing to the eye?" McCree asked.

"Yes," Genji looked over at Zenyatta, who placed a metallic hand over his. Genji relaxed at the comforting display.

"I know how it is," McCree sympathized, moving his serape to show off his robotic arm,"People don't like things that are different."

His eyes drifted to his indifferent brother. "Yes..."

"People do not like change, but change is what makes people grow," Zenyatta lectured,"People do not understand the correlation."

The food arrived shortly. Genji was shocked at the diversity around the table. A brownish soup with surfacing vegetables for Hanzo, who requested chopsticks, despite the fact no noodles were present in the stew. Typical for his brother to go back to their roots. McCree ordered a large steak, slightly pink due to his request of the meat being medium rare. A slaw and mashed potatoes accompanied as a side. Zenyatta had not ordered, but kindly asked for a glass of water, even though he did not drink. Genji's food consisted of fried beef and rice, partnered with steamed vegetables. It was boxed neatly in styrofoam.

Genji and Zenyatta watched the other two eat. McCree was messy, not afraid to get his hands dirty as he gnawed on the bone of the steak. He mentioned that it was a shame that they didn't serve ribs. He was finished quickly, burps rising from his chest as he considered the idea of dessert. Hanzo was slow, probably because the soup was still hot, but he deliberately savored each spoonful of steamy soup and vegetables.

"Dessert, anyone?" McCree asked when he was handed the menu by the waiter.

"No, thank you," Genji said, although he hadn't eaten anything.

"Get the cake," Hanzo said, leaning over and pointing to a picture.

"I was thinking about the sundae," McCree uttered.

Zenyatta looked over at Genji. "McCree was right,"

"How so, master?"

"Your brother is in a better mood. He was in a dark mood because of his hunger,"

The cyborg looked over at Hanzo and McCree once again. They argued about which dessert to get, light-heartedly. Hanzo was grinning when McCree punched his arm. "Maybe," he whispered.

They decided on the sundae, because McCree enlightened the mercenary about how sundaes come with a brownie, Hanzo's selection. His mood was lighter, assumed by the engagement of conversation with McCree.

When the waiter came by to refill drinks, Hanzo leaned forward on the table. "Zenyatta," he acknowledged the other couple, causing Genji to lift his head.

"Yes?" The omnic replied, and Genji tensed when Hanzo's gaze fixed onto him for a moment before returning to Zenyatta.

"How long have you known my brother?"

"A few years," Zenyatta replied,"He is one of my brightest pupils,"

Hanzo nodded. The conversation stopped there. Genji relaxed. If it evolved, maybe Hanzo would be evoked to spit harsh ridicules. Genji wondered if McCree would hold him back.

The sundae arrived shortly after, and the waiter made the effort to give all four of them spoons. Hanzo and McCree ended up eating the entire thing while Genji and Zenyatta watched. Genji busied himself with the decor of the restaurant. Multiple chandeliers, vintage lanterns hanging from support pillars, white table cloths. The restaurant was packed, servers were busy.

The check came, and Genji offered to pay, since Zenyatta did not carry money on his person. It was not too expensive, which Genji was thankful for. He left a tip, and in turn, they left hastily.

"What a wonderful place," Zenyatta commented as Genji held his arm.

"The food was filling," McCree agreed, picking at his teeth with a toothpick. He glanced at the others. "You know, I know a nice place where we can hang around a while. It's got a great view,"

"That would top the night, McCree," Zenyatta said.

McCree tossed the toothpick away and motioned for them to follow. Hanzo took his side, and Genji and Zenyatta lagged a step behind.

After a couple blocks, they came to a wooden bridge arched over a creek. If you stood in the middle of the bridge, you had a perfect vantage point of the moon over the city.

"What a beautiful sight," Zenyatta murmured once they stepped onto the bridge.

"I come here with Hanzo sometimes," McCree mentioned,"It's a nice place to get some alone time,"

Genji, accented by lime green, faced his master. Glad that his faceplate hid his blush, he watched their hands link. Zenyatta chuckled. Hanzo and McCree leaned over the railing of the bridge, staring out into the horizon. McCree lit a cigar, and Hanzo let him smoke.

"Are you enjoying the night?" Zenyatta asked his student quietly, not wanting to disturb the other couple.

"Yes, master,"

Genji looked over to see McCree popping a mint into his mouth as Hanzo gazed at the moon. He seemed well aware of what McCree was doing.

"If you want a kiss, you get one on the cheek," Hanzo said, eyes not leaving the moon.

McCree pouted. "Just one?"

"... Maybe two."

Genji wished to kiss Zenyatta. For once that night, the faceplate became a bother. He's done it before, in private, but never in public, not with the risk of his scarred face. Zenyatta seemed to understand his student's struggle, for he cupped Genji's face with both hands. The metallic fingers drew to the back of the cyborg's head, pressing against a release mechanism. A hiss caused Genji to gasp, and the faceplate peeled away by Zenyatta's hand.

"Master..." Genji breathed, quickly looking down. The scars made him hideous.

Zenyatta braced his face with his hands once again. "Genji, I'm right here,"

Genji glanced up and leaned in, placing a kiss on Zenyatta's cold cheek. Zenyatta hummed softly in encouragement, both hands on the sides of Genji's head. A whistle interrupted the intimacy.

"You ain't a sight for sore eyes, Shimada," McCree said, and Genji realized how close the other couple were. "If you really want to see scars, ask Reaper to take his mask off,"

Genji flushed, reaching for his faceplate and securing it back into place. When he looked up again, McCree's hands were in Hanzo's hips, and they were kissing. McCree glanced up and winked at Genji, noticing his stare. Hanzo nudged the cowboy, forcing him to return to the kiss. Genji noted how slow and passionate they were, and McCree reached up to remove his hat, using it to cover their make-out. Genji blushed at the smack of lip and tongue.

"Let's give them privacy," Zenyatta said, taking a hold of Genji's arm and bringing him to the end of the bridge.

"Can we kiss like they do, master?" Genji suddenly asked, unable to catch his tongue.

"Genji," Zenyatta said,"I do not have lips,"

"Right," Genji felt the embarrassment settle in, causing his cheeks to burn.

A few minutes later, McCree and Hanzo returned to them. McCree seemed to be on cloud nine, a euphoria no cigar could help him reach. Hanzo held his usual cold expression.

"Finished?" Zenyatta asked.

"We agreed to finish later," McCree smirked, arm around Hanzo's shoulders.

Genji flushed at the hints McCree dropped. He stuttered. "We should head back to headquarters."

The trip back was for the most part silent, besides some chatter between the couples. When they returned, Mercy demanded why they were out so late, but McCree managed to get her off their backs by saying the wait in the restaurant took ages. They headed up to their quarters before she could lecture them on the consequences of staying out too late.

"Zenyatta, you have my thanks for inviting us," Hanzo said, and bowed.

"It was my pleasure," Zenyatta said.

McCree tipped his hat at them once again,"We should do this again some time. Goodnight," he pressed an unauthorized kiss against Hanzo's cheek, receiving an elbow in his side. McCree hurried to his quarters before Hanzo could do worse.

Once Hanzo departed for his quarters, he placed a hand on Genji's shoulder. Before Genji could react to the gesture, the moment had passed, and Hanzo was on his way. Genji noticed that his brother headed the same way McCree did, which was opposite of the direction of his room.

"Goodnight, Genji," Zenyatta said, not mentioning what Hanzo had done.

Genji stared at him before bowing. "Goodnight, master,"

Zenyatta hovered down the corridor and turned once he reached the end. Genji sighed, allowing the tension to drop from his shoulders. He went to his room and quietly shut the door. At least he got to kiss Zenyatta, and some sort of affection from Hanzo. He hoped for more in the future.

He sat on his bed once the intricate process of removing his armor was dealt with. He set the food, now cold, down on his lap and ate.

This is so cute! McHanzo and Genyatta are definitely my favorite overreach pairings. Great writing!
